(Sigh) I would like to know what has gotten into the Weimer Government. The decisions they have been making lately have been horrible for our country as a whole. Let us start with World War 1, because that seems to be the big issue. We lost! No! We are supposed to be the big dogs and you go and lose to the Allies! Come on man what is this! And don’t even get me started on the Treaty of Versailles. How could we have agreed to the terms of the Treaty of Versailles? That treaty is perhaps one of the worst treaties that I have ever witnessed and it’s going to be the reason for an uprising within. The Allies wanted to make sure that there was no way for us to regain the momentum we once had. The treaty reduced our military, made us pay for war damages, and took our precious land. The Weimer must not understand what it takes to keep a nation uniform. We need a standing army with numbers to insure that our citizens are safe. Paying for war damages? Do you want us to go into even more debt and cause more inflation? LAND! My god they have clipped away what made Germany the country to be. The losses of our major regions are going to lead to a decline in production! Production is what keeps us alive and running man! It’s what gives us jobs! In my opinion, this makes our government look weak in the eyes of the people. They cannot man up and stand up for themselves. I mean if it’s going to take a little action from an opposition to make you straighten up, then that’s what I think should happen. Not the fascist kind if you want me to be more specific. I don’t think the people are ready for that yet. This shows me that you are not well equipped to be running Germany and you are going to lose a lot of support, which is needed to stay in power.
Yes Akevian, I agree! The Treaty of Versailles was absolutely the root of failure. When the Weimar government signed the peace treaty it basically gave up on Germany and put its ambition to waste. And yes it is so true that the Weimar Government went against the peoples' will. What do you except? The Weimar Government actually put their ambition to waste along with causing a depression within Germany. The economy was unstable due to large amounts of debt and many unemployed soliders, and further more land was lost. Due to Germanys poor econonmy at the time "Germany was ruining a trade deficit she had little hope of attracting foreign investment when capital was in short supply. Her industrial potential was crippled by the loss of the saar land and Upper Silesia and her pre-war pattern was shattered." (source 1) Germany became one of the worse trading partners because she had very little to offer. The original plan to win the war and gain land land in order to produce more goods had failed and went completely wrong! :(...all due to the Weimar Government QUITING and SIGNING of the TREATY OF VERSAILLES
ReplyDeleteAkevian, I agree with you that the Treaty of Versailles was a failure for the Weimar government, but there is not much that they could have done because they were facing invasion from some of the major powers in the world. As a Citzen of Germany what would happen to you if your country was invaded. Would it have been worse for you if they had not agreed to the treaty and allowed Germany to be invaded than it is now? I believe the answer is that you would have felt just as bad about then as you say you do now. They were in a tough spot, with a decision they made their would be dire consequences to Germany, and many upset citizen. It would be impossible for them not to upset any one. If they allowed invasion then there would be even more bloodshed and lose of Germany life. This I believe would cause just the same amount of anger citizens as the Weimar government had with the decisions they made. The Weimar government did the best they could do for the situation they were in. Were they perfect? No but the dealt with a very mess situation.

ReplyDeleteI totally agree that the Treaty was absolutely horrible and the lost of land lessened the availability of jobs...but let's face it, who would work these jobs anyway? Our men are dead or injured so badly they cannot work. Do you expect the women to up and learn how to all these jobs overnight? It is unfortunate that Germany wanted out of the war, but did you want more dead soldiers than we already have? Whatever decision Germany made would not make the entire country happy anyway, so give them a little credit! Whether signing the treaty or not, Germany would have been in this same terrible position because if not reluctantly, the Allies would have used force to make us agree to the terms. Would you rather have a government like Weimar that is attempting to restore Germany (which will of course take time. Look at the things they faced coming into this thing), or an extremest government that doesn't give a crap about the people; just their own power? You make the choice.
I agree with you Akevian about the terms of the Treaty of Versailles. Without any land, jobs, or even allies, we are unable to pay back the $66 billion of reparations that they blamed solely on us! It wasn't only our fault, I mean we weren't fighting the war against ourselves! Although now it seems we are. With all of the uprisings and rebellions happening now a day. True, the Weimer Governemt was in the wrong about taking us out of the war and signing the Treaty of Versailles but what other choice did they have? If they didn't sign the treaty then we would have been attacked and destroyed from much bigger and stronger powers than ourselves. I personally don't believe that we were losing the war but from how my neighbor explained it to me, we didn't have much of a choice. I agree that the Weimer didn't understand exactly the damage the treaty would cause our nation as a whole but what would you have done if given the decision to stay in the war and be totally overpowered or sign the treaty and reap the repercussions from it? I believe we were better off signing the treaty as we prevented more causalities from befalling our nation but now more people are dying from starvation than ever before. I don't think the Weimer government realized it would get this far out of hand or they might have tried preventing it.
ReplyDeleteAkevian, I just mainly want to go off one of your last comments. While I disagree with most of what you said, I do agreethat te Allies are at fault (but I'd say they are completely to blame). Anyway, you said something at the end about how the Weimar government is ill-equipped to govern. I disagree. I think they are doing the best they can. You are right that they probably won't have to support to stay in power but I don't think that means they aren't good leaders. I think to be a good leader you have to be willing to sacrifice for your followers and for those you are responsible for. That is precisely what I think the Weimar government is doing. They have sacrificed any chance at power to do what they think is best for us, for their people. Try being optimistic. Respect this government which has done so much for us. Their decisions are a blessing in disguise...just give them a chance.
ReplyDeleteAkevian I agree with you. I said some of the exact same things in my post. The Weimar Government should have never signed the peace treaty to stop the war. This caused many problems. It reduced the army, the country was in big time debt, and we had to give up some of our best lands. If they had never signed the Treaty of Versailles, all of these problems may have never happened. The Weimar Government could have at least waited a little bit longer to see if they were definitely going to lose. Winning could have stopped a lot of problems and the citizens would have not been so angry with the government either.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you my felow citizen. We are the mighty Germany, how could we lose to those Allied pansies. My older brother did not go to war and die just for us to lose that blasted war. Also, the treaty was in fact horrible and its terms were too unfair on us. What about Turkey? they helped shoot some of the Allies but yet they get away free and even help issue punishment to us! If you want to issue justice, make sure everyone is punished and not just a selcet few.
