Dear Friedrich Ebert,
What have you and your government done to our country. We were a proud nation but then you went and pulled us out of the war when we were still in it! (Notes) Then, because you pulled us out, we never got a chance to win. Why did you accept that dang treaty? We were fine but then you just rolled over to those American dogs. Because of that, we lost our land, our countrymen, our money, and our happiness.(Notes) Then you let those dang Frenchies and Belgian stupid heads take over our Ruhr.(Source 1) Maybe Hitler is right. I mean, if you cant even stop those Spartacists from marching into the capital, without help from the Friekorp, how can you protect us from other countries. Also, I don't want a weak government, I mean you can't even make money right. Because, you and your government signed all our money away, you got us into debt. Then, to get out of debt, you printed more money.(Source 1) Now, I know your new to this whole running of the government thing but printing more money isn't the solution. Now where in a crisis. I mean before all this stuff happened an ounce of gold was equal to around 20 marks. Now its equal to up in the trillions.(Notes) This is all your fault. If you hadnt signed that treaty or just not printed all this money, we would have been ok. Maybe not good but we would have survived. Now because of what you have done, we have people like this crazy Hitler guy, trying to stir up trouble with things like his "Beer Hall Pusch".(Source 1 and Notes) Nobody wants to listen to him rant about everything. Now you seem like a nice guy but this is ALL YOUR FAULT!

Ian, do you really think we could continue this war, without causing more harm to us? We were on the verge of having the Allies invading! We were already low on food because of the blockade that Great Britain set up. I doubt we could have lasted.
ReplyDeleteIan, be wary of this Hitler. Something very similar happened in Russia, and look where they are now! Everything is screwed up. I don't like the looks of this Hitler person.
Do you think the Weimar government has had enough time to "settle in"? Because if they haven't, I don't think we should be able to attack them for these mistakes yet.
Ma-Ke-Own!
ReplyDeleteYES! It was that dumb treaty that did us in! It is that root to all evil! However, when listening to feedback from my fellow German's they have made points to me that actually made sense. Whether or not Germany sign the treaty or not, it still would have meant bad for the country as a whole. The Weimer government was stuck between what we wanted and want the Allies wanted. There are citizens out there that are on different sides of the spectrum so regardless someone out there was not going to be happy. And as for the Allies, we pretty much had no choice. Come to think of now I think that if the Weimer government signed the treaty to save us.
Ian, you're right that they shouldn't have pulled us out of this war. But I almost only agree because they weren't ready. I don't think they had any right to jump into decisions. What gave them the right? They should have given time to gain our respect and approval before they tried bossing us around. We may not have been able to win the war, but we may have gotten a different punishment (Treaty) if we had pulled out at a later date. I'm sure they Weimar didn't even consider that.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you there, they never should have pulled us out!
Question though. How do you feel about Hitler? You said he was right at the begining, but then you called him crazy. If you're unhappy with the Weimar, are you not on his side?
Ian, you and I will get out of the Fatherland because it is horrible. The treaty was god awful, you said it correctly. Germany no longer belongs to us, it belongs to our enemies. How can the government claim to represent us and still stand for this?
ReplyDeleteI don't understand why they aren't listening, or making attempts to better the Fatherland. We can't protect or feed ourselves now- why don't they realize how dependent they have made us? If we keep going like this, we will never be on even ground with other nations, we will always owe them something.
I tip my hat to you for coining the term 'Belgian stupid heads.'
Ian, I like most of what you said but, the Americans have tried to help and they never fully agreed with the terms of the treaty of versailles. But it all comes back to the fact that the government should have never caved in. This whole situation is ridiculous! If the government had just listened to the people like it was supposed to, this stupid thing never would have happened. Maybe Hitler is right. He may be crazy but what do have to lose?
ReplyDeleteI am upset about the situation too, especially the terms of the treaty, but it seems to me we had no other choice but to sign it. We should no thave pulled out of the war when we were so close, but having done so we had nothing ot negotiate with. I think what i am most upset about is the way we gave in to the treaty. Instead of putting up a fight, which we know would truely do no good, we willingly signed. I think the German people would appreciate going down with a fight, instead of being walked all over by the allies. We may have given the Weimar Government a little bit of support and sympathy...
ReplyDeleteHello Ian, this is Ian, I'm glad we see things similarly.
ReplyDeleteOur empire has crumbled because of a weak government. The Weimar did not know us well enough to know that we would win the war. Araam you shut your mouth. With Russia out of the war we would have only been on one front, we would have ran France over, and ran over those baguette eating snobs. Instead they now have their old land back, and our nation has been sliced up and served out into these miniature countries.
How can we expect to be a strong country when our government can barely keep itself from being toppled by extremist groups? I agree, we need someone to defend us from the spartacists, Germany will never fall into the grasps of communism. They can keep their Marxist utopia to themselves, and we will rebuild and take it over.
But under this government, we have no jobs. There is no money, and no hope of establishing trade again with our worthless currency. And no land to make our money worth something again. And with all of our wounded and dead coming back from our fruitless war, who can we even count on to work?
One thing I must say though, even though the USA sided with the allies during the war, they actually tried to help us, did you ever hear their president's fourteen points? It was quality stuff, not about screwing us over.
Right now, Germany needs a better leader.
