So Many Mistakes

What is wrong with this country? A war we thought would be won within several months has now turned out to be a complete backfire and to other countries, a fault on our side. I am in total disbelief that Germany surrendered. We concidered ourselves the superpower of the world, and now we sit it utter shame. Those criminals we see as the Weimar government, the government that reflects our country, has robbed us of everything that we held true to the name of Germany.

The way the Weimar Government dealt with World War I was of poor and . The Weimar Government signed the Treaty of Versailles, takeing from Germany most of its land and putting our country in great debt (Belk Notes). Our great army that would lead the country into a world superpower now sits with a mere one hundred thousand men. How pitiful! Our country has had two point four million souldiers dead and over five million wounded, and yet we have to take full blame for the war and pay for reparations (Belk Notes). It angers me to see our country just as effected by the war as all others, and yet we are held responsible to pay for and help restore the damage done. We are in no way in any position to pay for the war reparations when we have fallen so far into debt. It is easy to say that the government has demoralized the people of Germany. A war that could have been won by Germany is now ended with Germany paying all consiquences for actions that should have been delt with in a stronger fasion.

A significant loss that Germany is faced with is land. France, a country so weak compared to Germany now has control of the Ruhr Valley, a prized piece of land (Belk Notes). Along with the Ruhr Valley, a lot of other valuable land was taken, leaving Germany with weak agricultural abilities. It is almost impossible for agriculture and industry to take root and expand with lands such as the Ruhr valley taken away and distributed to other countries. It is seen so far that instead of trying to at least recover some of the land and wealth lost from the Treaty of Versailles, the Weimar Government has allowed other countries to deprive Germany of almost everything it has. How is a country like ours supposed to build itself back up if we do not have sufficient funding and economic developments? How can Germany call itself the superpower of the world if its government backs down in times of war and allows other countries to wipe it clean of all it has? Taking land and weakening a countries economy like it is seen here is the one thing that can destroy a country completely. As a German citizen, the deprevation of land will make it extremely difficult for Germany to get itself back on its feet economically.

Speaking still in economic terms, industry suffers as well as agriculture. With such a large death rate of four point eight million men, many workers within the death rate were lost (Belk Notes). Industry will now suffer because of such a high rate of loses. With agriculture failing as well, there are not many other possibilities for our country to fall back on economically. We find ourselves now having no means of economic stability at our hands. Also, with the peace settlement, unemployment has devistated the country. Millions of soldiers that have returned from the war have come home to no jobs available (Belk Notes). With such a huge loss in workers to the war, and unemployment rates being so high, industries will soon begin to close down with a lack of workers. The Weimar Government has given itself a bad name for Germany and its people. It has provided inadequate living styles for the people, and has put Germany in economis instability. I fear that with such a low respect for the government, rebellion and riot will put Germany into greater turmoil. With the Weimar Government having lost everything from the war, it will soon lose full respect of the people and the country as a whole will continue to crumble.

  2. Chris, I so agree because before the Weimar Government even stepped in we had intentions of winning and not losing land, but gaining land. We encountered a huge ego at the beginning of the war. It seemed as if the Weimar Government stepped in and ruined Germany's original ambition. It seems as if the Weimar Government is the reason for Germany's failure. If we would have continued war then at least we would have had a chance at gaining success. We lost so much because of the low self- esteem that the Weimar Government had. They simply gave up and gave away everything that Germany was fighting for. Germany originally hoped to gain land and land was one major lost. The people of Germany originally had alot of patriotism, but the Weimar Government had to step in and ruin the chance for the people of Germany to succeed in World War One. The Weimar Government most definitely had alot of recovering to do at the conclusion of this major dispute.

  3. hey little buddy good disk game today, but i have to disagree with you quite a bit. How can you be so angry that you are being charged with the main responsibility for the war? you know from class that germany was the first to attack, that they provided Austria-Hungary with the infamous "blank check", and that they made no secret about their main driving force in the war being purely imperialistic. Kinda makes them seem mostly although not completely responsible to me...Also in the economic relm its not really the weimar's fault what lands get taken. True, i think they agreed to too harsh of a treaty, but they did what they thought necessary to point Germany in the right direction. That being said, once they conceded to the Allies do you really think they got to pick and choose what lands they gave away and what lands they kept? of course not. finally can the weimars really help how many people were killed in the war? no, they werent even in power during this time and the one thing everyone has to agree on is that by ending the war they did save lives. So the fact that industry was hurt due to a shortage of workers is in no way their fault, it was just one of the many obstacles the weimars had to try and overcome

  4. Chris and Shawana were all thinking along the same lines. The Weimar government but our country in huge debt and a economical crisis. The peace treaty defeated the purpose of Germany goal of gaining land. They entered into the war wanting to gain more land to help their economy, however when the weimar government signed to treaty of versaii the lost all of it. Also since the government decided to resign from the war, it made the citizen and fighters mad and like chris stated earlier it made, "inadequate living styles for the people". They had the opp. to proceed and maybe win the war, however they decided to back out as if they didnt have faith. The governments decision on signing the tov was the key factor to Germany's failure and its all due to their poor choices.
