McGill- Nazi propaganda and German unemployment

The economic fall in Germany and the Nazi party's use of propagnda gave the opportunity for Hitler's rise to power. THe Great Depression took over the world in the 1930's. Production in Germany fell and people started to loose thier jobs. With the unemployment rising in Germany people started to blame the government for thier present situation. This nation unrest in the Weimar Republic gave the extremist Nazi party the opportunity to rise. With the power of propaganda the Nazi party gained the support of the people. Within the first few years of the Great Depression the Nazi votes had substanially risen. Soley because of the unemployment and Nazi propaganda Hitler had a chance to rise to power.

In October of 1929 the American Stock Market crashed. Because of this the United States called back loans given to Germany at the end of World War One for them to pay back thier war reperations. With this huge loss in money German production slowed greatly and companies started to lay off workers. This increased unemployment in Germany and the citizens started to blame to government. The government who had promised better times and a stronger nation had failed them. For a few years there were better times in Germany then the hard times of the 1930's came. With the economy in the tank the people started to want an extreme change. They found thier extreme change in the form of the Nazi party and thier carasmatic leader, Adolf Hitler.

The Nazi party was a facist party in Germany the was led by Adolf Hitler. Their use of propaganda was positioned perfectly for thier eminant rise to power once the people got tired of the Wiemar Republic. The Nazi Party promoted candidates in elections who spoke with passion and a power that the citizens of Germany needed to feel better about thier lives at the time. The Nazi Party gave the people of Germany a scapegoat for all of thier angry feelings. That scapegoat was the Jews. Because the Nazi Party and Adolf Hitler gave the people what they wanted when they needed they rose to power in Germany.

Hitler gained the support and love of the German people in a time when they needed a hero the most. The unemployment in Germany and the perfectly timed propaganda of the Nazi Party gave the opportunity for the rise of Hitler.

  1. Your thematic approach is evident right away: "The economic fall in Germany and the Nazi party's use of propaganda gave the opportunity for Hitler's rise to power," which is good because it's evident throughout and you address the condition and method in the first sentence. You have good historical context, your offer analysis. I think your paper would get a 13 because it fits each category in the 11-13 markband.

  2. I agree with A. Hall. This post shows that you have a good understanding of the history of the subject and the causes and effects of events. Though, (and I'm not sure I can really even say this since I'm pretty sure it's a big problem for me as well) I think you could give some other ... um... I don't know, interpretations of the events? That's just what I think. I agree with Hall: I'd give it 13.

  4. Right away with your thesis, you state a condition and a method that got Hitler into power. You say Hitler's rise to power was because of the Nazi propoganda and unemployment. However, this does not explain the conditionS. Also, there are many facts, but they leave holes and do not provide much analysis. I would give this a 10. You understood the question, but "is supported with limited references to different approaches to historical events and/or topics." It is mainly descriptive or narrative.
