Snider- Hitler takes advantage
Hitler used the crisis situation in Germany to aid in his quest to rise to power. He uses the mistakes of the present government to help him gain power. Some of the methods he used were propaganda and he brought out the weaknesses in the Weimar government to get the people to want him to be ruler. Some of the conditions that also led Hitler to become in power were the Great Depression and the Treaty of Versailles. The Great Depression was a worldwide crisis and started in 1929. Banks were crashing, stock markets were crashing, and America could no longer be a financial support for Germany. This is when the German people began to look for help. Because of the Great Depression, the United States is unable to be a financial support for Germany. Germany has no one to pay their debts so they focus all their income on reparations (Germany). Germany’s economy slowly declines and conditions worsened for Germany’s citizens. People of Germany want change so they call for help. The Nazis are given the chance to let their name be heard and be in power. In 1928, Nazis only received 2.6% of the vote, in 1930, they received 25.8% of the vote and then in 1932 they got 37% of the vote. As Germany’s economy sinks, the Nazis become more powerful. The Nazis take control and begin to rule. This piece of evidence is important to my claim because it can help one to see how the Nazis came to rule and the methods that were used and the conditions, which helped Hitler rise to power in Germany. This piece of evidence is helpful to coming to my conclusion because you can see how America’s economy influenced Germany’s economy (Dawes Plan), when America’s economy crashed, so did Germany’s. This gave Hitler the chance to put himself out there and for people to hear what he had to say through his speeches. He knew that the people wanted change so he made people believe that he would be the one able to bring about changes. The Great Depression is important to me in being able to come to a conclusion because it shows how Hitler rises to power in Germany. Another individual could interpret this piece of evidence differently. Someone could say that this piece of evidence does not support my claim but through the Great Depression, it can be seen how Hitler rose to power. Because the economy in America crashed so did many other countries’ economies including Germany. It was like a domino effect. So, this piece of evidence directly supports my claim because f the Great Depression never occurred, Germany’s economy would not have crashed and people would not have been looking for a change. Therefore, Hitler would have never been able to have a chance to be in power. Another piece of evidence that supports my claim is the Treaty of Versailles. This treaty affected the German citizens and the Weimar Government decided to sign this treaty in 1919. It caused many problems throughout Germany. It caused political instability, economic ruin, and unemployment. After this treaty was signed, the military was reduced to 100,000, there was a $33 billion war-reparation, war-guilt clause, and Germany had to give up land. There were also uprisings against the fledging republic even before it is properly formed, the war devastated the economy and further problems occurred because of the peace settlement, and millions of soldiers returned home to find no jobs available. The signing of the Treaty of Versailles is significant to my claim because this gave Hitler yet another opportunity to have the people hear his ideas and thoughts and give him more of a chance to rise to power. The people were very frustrated with the Weimar Government because of the peace treaty they signed so the people wanted change and Hitler was there. He gave speeches and used propaganda to get his message across and so people would see the weaknesses in the Weimar Government. Unlike to Weimar Government, Hitler did not promise the people anything because he saw that as a weakness of the Weimar Government. He did not want to leave the people with unkept promises. This evidence is useful to me in being able to come to a conclusion because this shows the weaknesses that the Weimar Government had, some issues they dealt with, and the effects of their decisions. Hitler used things like this to let the people see the mistakes the Weimar Government had made and try to persuade the people to listen to him and that he was right. Another individual could interpret this evidence differently. For example, one may see that the signing of the Treaty of Versailles as a good decision. This would have not given Hitler the chance to rise to power. This would go against my claim. If my claim was challenged by this piece of evidence, I could say that if the peace treaty was never signed, Hitler may have not had another opportunity to rise to power and to get himself known. He also would not have been able to point out as many weaknesses of the Weimar Government. In addition, the people would not have wanted a change as badly if the Weimar Government had never been signed. So, this piece of evidence directly supports my claim because the people did not have any trust in the Weimar Government anymore and they wanted change and Hitler was there delivering speeches to them saying that he will bring about change. In conclusion, Hitler used the problems of Germany and the problems of the Weimar Government in order to rise to power. If these problems never occurred, Hitler probably would have never got the chance to be in power.

Your background of the historical evidence is very solid. You know what you are talking about. However, your thesis is not very clear, "Hitler used the crisis situation in Germany to aid in his quest to rise to power." If this is your thesis, then be more specific, such as what situation? Also, your use of analysis is not the right form, you should analyze the situation explicitly instead of different interpretations of the evidence. You are the historian, therefore this paper is how you feel the people of Germany were affected. Write more of how people and plans were affected by Hitler. Also, include more citations of where your information is coming from. I would give this paper a 8.
ReplyDeleteI agree with dhara that you need to be more spcific with the situation dilehmma but i do think your analysis is better you do put the points of feelings of other and the regurgitation i feel is played well with the thesis just some things off when relating it to your thesis. i also do agree with dhara on citations we all know this but i didnt do it either trust me but i will now so you shall as well hopefully haha but like dhara said i feel this doeesnt hit the full extent of the question as to the methods and the conditions as well as you can it is very well organized and good analysis i can see where you came from there are just some tweaks i feel needed to be handled id say...10
