There are many issues due to the economical crisis of Germany that helped Adolf hitler and the nazi party into power. During the Nazi and hitler race to power Germany itself was facing many challeges as a country under the weinmar government. These challenges later became the stepping stone to the party's success.
The weinmar government and their decisions caused Germany to be a failure. One of their biggest mistakes was signing the peace treaty. By openly accepting the TOV the weinmar government reduced the military, had to pay for war reparations, took the blame for the war, and gave up their land. By the government signing the peace treaty it caused Germany to be at a great loss. Germany lost iron and coal production, pre-war territory and part of its populatoin. It also put Germany in debt and caused the government to print money for war damages (rapid inflation). Hitler knew that the weinmar government failed at openly accepting the tov and that it was one of the reasons for the economic crisis. At that point in time the people were looking for anything to help out and this helped hitler into power. he knew that the people were looking for any strong figure to felp better the circumstances. The weinmar government was based off of an democracy and in the peoples eyes, "Democracy achieved nothing". Therefore they screamed louder and louder for a strong leader. Hitler began to preach to the people how the, "TOV was a crime". This evidence is significant to the claim because it shows how the people had turned their backs on the weinmar government and the TOV and how hitler used the two issues to help himself into power. one could argue that this evidence does not effect the claim by saying that the people didnt turn their backs on the weimar goverment however through the electorial votes its shows how desperate some citizens were when it came for looking for a new leader. in some cities they were voting for hitler without even hearing him speak once. This shows how bad the people wanted change that they would basically choose anyone to govern. In 1928 the nazis had only two percent of the vote but as circumstances got worse that percentage began to rise. by 1930 the percentage rose to 25 percent. This shows how affective the nazi's had became in two years. So this piece of evidence directly suports my claim because it shows how Hitler used the weimar government's poor decision in order to conquer power.
The Great depression is another condition that helped lead to Hitlers rise to power. The Great Depression took place in america and caused germany's economy to decline and the stock market to crash. In 1929 the great depression began. This was a major problem for weimar goverment because once again they were in huge debt due to the signing of the TOV. in order to pay off the loans that were owed they came up with the young and doll plan. these plans helped germany build a strong economy becaused it made the payments more resonable over a longer period of time. Germany was able to pay off the loans because America had been giving the money however, when the depression hit in 1929 germany was out of luck. This meant they wouldnt be able to follow the young plan because America couldnt supply the money. Since america money decreased it make jobs and production decrease in germany. Once the economy went down the people stopped supporting the weinmar government and supported hitler. unemployment made the society depressed and hitler used this chance to give hope. This piece of evidence is significant to the claim because it shows how the Great Depression in America affected Germany and how Hitler used those effects to make his way into power.
Hitlers main thing was propaganda. He was a dominant figure that most germans were looking for to lead their country out of the depression. He was a powerful speaker that provided hope for the citizens and made them happy without make a promise not one time. This for one shows how hitlers rise to power was legal. He told the people many things like how he was the strong leader that Germany was needing, however not once did he make promises. He flew around germany preaching to the citizens about how things would be better if they followed him. He even sometimes served bread and water at his speaking places. this is significant to the claim because it shows the effort put forth by hitler and the things he did in order to win the peoples vote. by him traveling around, it helped get his name out their and win votes also because people were looking for someone who could bring germany out of its crisis. someone could argue that this evidence does not support the claim because bread and water doesnt win someone vote for government. This is false because at that point in time jobs were out and people were hungry. so this piece of evidence directly suports my claim because it shows the time and thought that was given by hitler to the people.
Its commonly said that "one mans trash is another mans treasure" and in germany thas exactly what happend. the weinmar governments trash became Hitler's treasure. The Great Depression and the TOV provided stepping stones for Hitler and the Nazis rise and propaganda won the votes.
