Edwards- Nazis and Education

Hitler used education as a form of propaganda to support his regime. Hitler ensured that all the youth of Germany received education on the standards he felt were important for the support of his Nazi regime. By using and controlling education, Hitler supported his regime by filtering what information the people of Germany was exposed to.

Hitler and the Nazis had the idea to use education as a way to prolong the length of their control over Germany. Topics such as German literature, Biology, and History were taught to the citizens. German literature was taught to form the military mentality the Hitler himself possessed. By forming that mentality in everyone else, Hitler would be able to easily persuade the people to support his militaristic ideologies and support him in times of conflict. Biology was taught in order for the people to better educate the people on the subject of genetics. This was important because Hitler hated the Jews and only considered those born of German bloodlines to be true German citizens and these were the only people that Hitler felt would fulfill his dream of a "perfect" Germany. Hitler also added German history to his list of standards for the people. By doing this, Hitler only permitted the teaching of the items in history that would make Germany shine in the light and this would draw the people closer to him in hopes that they would be able to shine once more. He also omitted the items in history that would make Germany seem like the villain or make them look bad. Hitler also condoned the burning of books by Jewish authors. This would prevent outside influences from creeping into the citizen's mind and it would allow Hitler to implement policies with ease.

Youth schools were also created for German boys and girls aged 10 to 18. This was important because it provided Hitler with future support from the youth as they aged and became old enough to vote and participate in the Nazi movement. The schooling for boys consisted of sports and military training. Military training would be important because the boys would eventually be of age and be able to participate in the army and this would allow Hitler to bypass training an entirely new army.

By using education, Hitler was able to support his regime by spoon feeding his own definition of history and what he wanted the people to hear. He also omitted the portions in history and literature that would make himself and/or Germany look bad. Education was another form of propaganda used by Hitler and the Nazi party in order to draw the people closer to the ideology of his regime.

  1. I agree with all of your points but just want to add something to your conclusion. I agree that education was a form of propaganda, because he specifically allowed only certain information to help his regime, but I don't think it was propaganda to only gain people's trust and acceptanceof Nazi ideology. I think he was looking towards the future and also focused on shaping german children the way he wanted to create that German utopia. He saw education in that eventually these children would be germany, and would be perfect german citizens and adults for Hitler to take Germany to the top.

  2. I also agree with all of your points. You have opened my eyes to points that I did not even think to consider in my post. You have broken down WHY you believe that Hitler involved particular subjects and even the moments. However, I did not see Hitler's method for education as much of a BIG form of propaganda. No, I am not saying that you are wrong, because as I said before, I agree. However, I saw Hitler's methods for education as more of a way to better Germany and STILL for him to gain and hold power. I agree with Kyle, Hitler was looking at the future. Look at how Germany turned out after WWI. EVERYTHING is unstable. I believe this is Hitler's way to attempt to fix this for the future. But so sad for bad timing. lol. :) great post kid!
