Hitler's methods of gaining power were accelerated by the conditions in Germany.
The post WWI Germany was racked with debt and turmoil, the government in place was struggling to feed its people, negotiate with other nations, as well as fend off opposition internally. During these strenuous circumstances Hitler, the leader of the Nazi party attempted to start an uprising to overthrow the government. This was known as the Beer Hall Putsch, the conditions in Germany were bad at the time but not bad enough for Hitler's message to be effective. Germany was not at a place of complete desperation yet, the United States inflated the economy with the Dawes Plan and the Young Plan. This was time of "Wiemar Decadence" The Wiemar had a 76% majority vote and there was plenty of support for this new government. But this would not last because in 1929 the United States crashed into the Great Depression the German economy went with it. The German currency became more useful to heat homes instead of buy goods. This hyper-inflation was coupled with unemployment that skyrocketed. As unemployment increased so did support for the Nazi party because Hitler's message now applied to them much more than it had before. The economic situation was not the only condition that boosted Hitler is his rise to power there were also social, militaristic, and political conditions that also presented Hitler with a perfect opportunity to seize power. In Germany people were disgusted with the Wiemar Decadence of before, they also believed that Germany was the strongest nation in the world and had been cheated by the Wiemar Government. The Wiemar government was rapidly losing support and could barely control its population. The military had been decreased so dramatically that it was barely worth mentioning. These conditions, social, political, and militaristic conditions all presented Hitler with a prime opportunity to take control, but his methods were also potent and together the conditions and methods were a perfect storm for take over.
Hitler's methods included infamous propaganda, his 25 goals, as well as a party that supported him. His propaganda included the speeches as well as printed material such as Mein Kamf. This brought Hitler into the national spotlight along with his views. His goals for Germany had not changed from the Beer Hall Putsch but the people's willingness to listen had. The conditions were a major factor but if Hitler had not used such effective propaganda his movement may never have seen success. Another major factor was the Storm Trooper fighting force that marched through towns all over Germany. To the German people they saw Hitler who had a plan and people left and right were in total support of him, it was a reassurance to them to see some strength and pride in the new power. Hitler's message took hold and he was offered the chancellorship which then led to his eventual take over of the entire German country.
Hitlers methods were effective and well calculated but had the conditions not been ripe during the Beer Hall Putsch, only when Germany was ready to listen and the conditions were right the two combined for a perfect storm in which Hitler walked into power.
PS: Making this post due on BCS championship night was not cool.
I think that this is a very good post. It has facts and analysis. I like how you set up his methods with the conditions that made his rise to chancellor "ripe." You then analyze his methods and how it swayed german citizens towards him and fascism. Also at the beginning of your post you show how the people were not in support of him, but after mentioning and analyzing the conditions and methods you show the people were now on Hitler's side; making your evidence even more convincing.
