Jones-Hitler takes advantage of Mistakes

After World War One Germany signed to treaty of Versailles, which put the Weimar Government between a rock and a hard plate. The treaty was made to limited Germany’s army from expanding and also takes some of Germany’s most valuable land. Also the treaty did not allow Germany to be in the League of Nations. Signing the treaty was not something that Germany was excited about doing but a must. If Germany did not sign the Treaty of Versailles then the Allies would invade and cause much more trouble plus make them sign the treaty anyway. Little did Germany know that signing a treaty would result in some events that would cause Hitler to come to power.

The Weimar Government signed the Treaty of Versailles to protect the people from the Allies invasion, but it put the country into great debt. The Nazis did not like the signing of the treaty because it was not one of their aspects which they believe Germany was there for. The Nazis was in rage with Germany for pulling out of the war and did not accept the signing. The country suffered hard times trying to pay off the debts that it owed to the other countries. The United States later came in to help Germany out by creating the young plan and the Dawes Plan. These plans would let Germany pay off the debt over a 58 year time span.

Germany was on track and it seemed that Hitler’s chance to come to power would never occur, until the United States suffered from a stock market crash which causes the great depression. The great depression caused the Untied States to stop helping Germany with the reparations. This cause a chain reaction, due to the USA not providing help for Germany, inflation began in Germany. Money began to lose its value and became worthless. The government believe that printing more money would help pay off the debts. Many people lost their jobs and became poor. This only gave the people more of a chance to hop over to Hitler’s.

Propaganda was one of the methods that Hitler used in order to come into power. He spoke out against the Government and was arrested for it. Being arrested and speaking our showed Hitler’s courage and his ability to lead and take on the consequences that he would face. I believe that he may have earned respect from some of his followers by standing up for what he believed in at the Beer Hall Putsch. Another point Hitler brought up in his propaganda was the fact that the Weimar government was weak. He pointed out the time when the Weimar called for help to defend themselves against the left wing group, the Spartacists. Hitler’s methods use was mainly in order to get the people on his side. He did not do anything illegal and it seemed as if he was saying what the people wanted to hear. Hitler could have cared less about what the people wanted, it was part of his propaganda to let the people hear what they wanted to hear.
There were many conditions that led to Hitler to come into power. The great Depression is what I believe cause the rest of the chances for Hitler to come into to occur. Once the government show to the people that they could not provide jobs and keep the country in order Hitler step in. the people was getting sick of what the government was doing, and they felt anything could be better then what they was experiencing with the Weimar. Once Hitler gained his Chancellorship he was mainly in power.

Hitler coming into power should be put on the Weimar government. The Weimar opened up many chances for Hitler to use his methods in order to come into power. If the Weimar had been smart about the money situation and also if the United States would not have suffered from the Great Depression then there may not have been any opportunities for Hitler to have come into power.

  1. I agree with what you said about the conditions of the time and Hitler's methods accept on two points. First you say that Hitler didn't care what the people wanted. Although I will concede that Hitler's main aspirations for Germany were fueled by his own ambition, it's silly to say that he didn't care at all. If Hitler had not been in touch with the needs and wants of the German people and at least pretend to share them, then it would not have been possible for him to win the large amount of support that it took for him to be appointed chancellor of Germany. There is no way people would push to put a man into power that they did not believe had their best interests at heart. There is evidence for this in the fact that Hitler's speeches promised nothing more than food, jobs, and restoring Germany's previous greatness; all things that the German people yearned for.
The second point I disagree with is that Hitler only said what the people wanted to hear. I believe this to be untrue because it took economic catastrophe and a complete internal collapse on the part of the Weimar's before the people of Germany were willing to even acknowledge Hitler. As the documentary said, "Hitler's message didn't change what changed was the people's willingness to listen to it." If Hitler was a people pleaser then he would have been popular from the beginning. So instead of saying Hitler said what the people wanted to hear, I think it is more accurate to say that due to the conditions of the day the people wanted to hear what Hitler had to say.

  2. and after reading everyone else's responses I just realized that I did mine completely wrong... So, I believe this is a well written, but narrative essay and fits nicely in the 10 -11 range for several reasons. The information in the essay is correct and the way it is presented makes this paper very easy to read and understand. The information is also used in a way that helps prove your point. I believe this essay deserves a 10-11 because although it is mostly made up of facts there is some analysis

  3. Cece great analysis , yet it started off straight narrative. I believe you lose the reader by doing this because you dont add analysis until you talk about the methods of Hitler. All the facts you presented were great ,yet remeber the command terms.I think you analysis deserves a 10.

  4. Great paper CeCe! You have a lot of revelant facts that support your thesis and did a very good job at placing your facts in historical chronological order. Based on the IB score sheet I would give this paper an 11. Although you had some great facts you didn't provide that much analysis. There's also little evidence that you looked at it with a different perspective and interpretation. It is a very well written paper though, just add some more of what "CeCe thinks" and you'll be in the higher markbands in no time :)
