Mallard-A Fighting Chance

Based on the conditions in Germany in between 1918 and 1920, Hitler was ripe for his rise to power. The methods Hitler uses shows that he is a good leader and to the German citizens anything seems to be better than the predicament the Weimar Government has put them in after the signing of the Treaty of Versailles. Due to the Weimar Government being stuck in between a rock and a hard place, the signing of the treaty was inevitable. Hitler uses this against the Weimar Government to say they are not looking out for Germany’s best interest and he would be what this country needed. Hitler brought the negative effects of the signing of the Treaty of Versailles, such as the mass loss of land and the huge debt that Germany now had to pay, to the people’s attention. (notes) If the Weimar Government would have been able to explain to the people of Germany the tough situation they were in, then the citizens may have been more understanding but seeing as it was not that easy, Hitler made it a good opportunity for him to put his name out there. Based on the condition of the Weimar Government having to sign the Treaty of Versailles, Hitler was able to use his tactics to gain the support of the people. Not only was the Weimar Government stuck between a rock and a hard place when signing the Treaty of Versailles but also when the Spartacists began to revolt. Because the German army was so limited, the government needed more man power in order to put down the uprisings and the Weimar Government turned to the help of the Freikorps. (notes) Hitler also used this condition as a way to show the citizens that the government was weak. Hitler went into a pub to give a speech of how weak the government was, but no one would listen. (notes) Although the speech only really got him jailed, Hitler was only in the beginning stages and this was only the beginning of his push for power. Just as Germany was beginning to see the brighter side of things throughout the Stresemann Era, things changed when the stock market crashed in America causing the Great Depression. (notes) Hitler soon learned that he should be getting his name further out there so through propaganda and speeches he accomplished his goals. He created a 25 point outlook in 1920 and used this as the bases for the Nazi Party. (notes) Hitler began to capture the German citizen’s attention and soon the Nazi Party began to grow. With the vote of the Nazi Party rising from 2.6% of the vote to 25% in just 2 years, this shows Hitler was getting his name out and was being very influential, even if the German citizens were just looking for anything but the Weimar Government. (notes) Hitler was a very convincing man but he would have obtained less power had the conditions in Germany not have been in the turmoil that it was. Hitler would also have obtained less power if the German citizens looked toward the future and given the Weimar Government a chance

  1. I would give this essay a 9 on the IB HOTA scale because it seems to fall in the 8-10 part on the markband. I say this because the information giving covers a lot, but not much of it goes in depth. Some of the information also does not appear to be relevant to Hitler’s rise to power and the methods and conditions that allowed for this, like his failed "pub" speech on how weak the government was (Lexi). The evidence does not fit as well with the other things talked about in this post. To fix this problem having a narrower more specific thesis would be beneficial.

  2. Based on the IB markband, I would give this an 8. In this paper, you understood what you were supposed to answer and you did. You gave many accurate and relevant facts in your blog, but you wrote on a surface level and did not have much analysis at all. It was just mainly a descriptive paper where nothing was thought out in depth or analyzed.

  3. Based on the markband scale I would rate your analysis as a 8. You did a good job for presenting the facts ,but where was your opinion ??? Also you need to be more specific " the pub" What was that event actually called. Remember to be less implict and more explict, but great job!!!

  4. Based on th markband scale I would give this paper a 9. You have a lot of relevant facts that support your thesis and you did a good job staying on topic but provided very little analysis. Your facts were good but as Maggie stated they were only on a surface level. You need to dig deeper and give more analysis if you want to score higher.

  5. This post without a doubt demonstrates you have an adequate understanding of the material we have been presented with. However, I found hardly any analysis of this material. In essence, you answered the question but did not demonstrate the significance of these facts. Basically, to improve your score, first filter through the facts you presented and put in only the facts that are most pertinent. Then, go into extreme depth of these facts. Tell the reader what each of these facts truly means. Never forget what Belk said about 40% facts to 60% analysis.

I scored this paper an eight
